BOTOX® Cosmetic

Current statistics indicate that more than 1,600,000 BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments were administered last year in this country. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections have now been used safely and effectively for over ten years in almost 5 million patients.

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles every time you smile, laugh, or frown. The more emotions you show, the deeper these wrinkles and lines are likely to be. Now, thanks to a new use for an approved drug, dynamic lines can be dramatically softened.

BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

Treatment BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple and safe procedure. No sedation or local anesthetic is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately. Our patients say our injection techniques are the best.

COLLAGEN THERAPY

As your skin ages, its collagen network that provides support can weaken and cause facial lines to form. Using ZYDERM Collagen Replacement Therapy, these lines can be smoothed out, helping to restore your skin's natural beauty. Treatment is a simple non-surgical procedure that requires no recuperation.

Zyderm and Zyplast collagen implants are natural substances derived from highly purified bovine (cow) collagen that are injected just beneath the skins surface, where the body commonly accepts them as its own. Treatment with Zyderm or Zyplast collagen implants produces an immediately visible difference in the appearance of your skin.

Tiny amounts of ZYDERM Collagen are injected into the uppermost layers of the skin. The procedure requires an allergy test (97% are NOT allergic). With Zyderm and Zyplast collagen implants, most patients notice a softening of facial lines, wrinkles, and scars, or a more defined lip border, in just one treatment session.

While healing time varies, many people have the procedure and return to work that same day. The results of treatment usually last from 3 to 6 months. Just like natural collagen, injectable collagen eventually breaks down, so ongoing treatments are necessary to maintain the results you desire. If treatments with Zyderm and Zyplast are discontinued altogether, the injected collagen is simply reabsorbed by your body over time, and your face gradually returns to its natural contours.

LASER SKIN RESURFACING

Aging, sun exposure, heredity and lifestyle factors including nutrition, alcohol consumption and smoking all may contribute to facial wrinkling. Pigmentary changes of the skin, such as blotchiness or brown spots, may also occur with age or as a result of birth control pills, pregnancy or genetic factors. Prior acne may have made the surface of your skin uneven. These problems, as well as certain other skin conditions, may be improved by laser skin resurfacing.

You may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing if you have wrinkled or sun-damaged facial skin, vertical wrinkles around your mouth, such as those that cause lipstick "bleed", fine wrinkling of your upper eyelids, or brown spots and blotchy skin coloring. Patients may have their skin resurfaced at almost any age.

Skin resurfacing using a carbon dioxide (CO2)laser is the most modern and technologically advanced technique for reversing aging changes of the skin. This is designed to specifically interact with the skin layer. The laser machine has a computerized head that disperses this laser beam at a very specific energy level, size, and density calibrated exactly to your skin type and needs. This provides for extremely precise removal of one layer of the skin at a time to gently expose the underlying, youthful skin. Absence of bleeding makes this a very accurate technique.

The laser is then used to treat the skin a layer at a time for few or multiple "passes" determined by the thickness and healthiness of the skin and depth of pigment, scars, or wrinkles that need to be removed. The skin regenerates from the skin cells that reside in the sweat glands and hair follicles that are preserved. Healing time depends on how deep the treatment is and how many layers of skin were required to be removed, and how many regenerative skin centers are present. Like the other resurfacing methods, the laser is effective in treating wrinkles, blotchiness or age spots, and scars from acne or other causes. It can be used on the entire face or specific areas. Patients with a variety complexions, including some darker-skinned individuals, may be treated with the laser. Certain other characteristics of your skin, such as its thickness and texture, may influence whether you are a good candidate for laser resurfacing. Some patients may benefit from the laser's mild "tightening" effect on the skin, particularly in the lower eyelid area where the skin often becomes somewhat loose as a result of aging.

FAT INJECTIONS

Fat injections can be an effective way to reduce wrinkles and regain a more youthful appearance. In this procedure your own fat is collected (suctioned often using liposuction ) and reinjected into the defect area. Fat transfer may require sedation plus local anesthesia if larger amounts of fat are to be collected. Small amounts of fat can be collected and transferred under local anesthesia. The injected fat can be used to enhance lips, reduce wrinkles and lines and plump up the hollow appearance of cheeks and the area around the eyes. Fat transplantation works best for the naso-labial fold, the line angled between the nose and upper lip.
Fat injections can significantly reduce or eliminate wrinkles and other skin imperfections. They can also give you a more youthful appearance by reestablishing pleasing contours. Fat is the first choice of material when injections are needed in deeper layers of tissue or larger volumes (greater than 10cc).
However, injected fat may not last as long as some other materials. The fat is slowly absorbed by the body, although the amount of absorption is variable, and frequently hard to predict. Typically, more than half of the fat used in injectable treatments is absorbed with six months of the operation. Almost all patients will permanently retain some of the injected fat. However this percentage varies from patient to patient. If a significant amount of fat is absorbed, a second procedure may be needed to completely correct the sagging, wrinkling or other skin imperfections.
